| Adult Day Care is generally considered an alternative to long-term care and rehabilitation. There are two general types of adult day care programs—a medical model and a social model. The medical model provides comprehensive medical, therapeutic, and rehabilitation day treatment. The social model offers supervised activities, peer support, companionship, and recreation. Both models assist seniors and can provide respite to their caregivers. |

| Apartments for All Ages These apartments are for seniors that are totally independent. These communities do not have age restrictions and are open to the general public. Many of these communities have amenities and luxuries that seniors enjoy such as swimming pools, clubhouses and fitness centers. Some offer programs/amenities that are directly geared for their senior residents such as transportation, planned activities and trips. Meal services, emergency response and medical services are not typically included. |

| Assisted Living Assisted Living communities are for persons who need help with daily living activities but do not require nursing home care. Typically they provide help with meals, bathing, dressing, housekeeping, and other needs. Services are either included in the rent or provided at an extra charge. |

| Care Coordination or Geriatric Care Management Services These services and experts provide families guidance and help when working with their senior loved ones. Typically, with a background in social work, these counselors can provide assessments, un-biased recommendations, advocacy, and coordination of services. They can help you decide if home health care is the answer, or a move to a senior community is the best solution for your loved one. They assist families and loved ones in understanding the choices that need to be made. This type of service is particularly helpful to out of town family, as it gives them a local presence to watch over the care being provided. |

| Companion Care Agencies can provide: companionship, personal shopping, light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, errand running, etc. |

| Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) Many senior communities offer more than one level of care. There are some, however, that offer a comprehensive continuum of care. You may enter at any care level but often seniors move to one of these communities to enjoy an independent, active lifestyle. Should the need arise for assistance with living, memory supportive care, rehabilitation or even skilled nursing on a temporary or long-term basis; those needs can be met within the same community. Choosing a community that offers a continuum of care can be a good choice for couples whose needs may vary. |

| Downsizing Management Services help guide seniors and their families through the sometimes uncomfortable process of downsizing their possessions. They will take unwanted possessions and sell the treasures (through auctioneers, estate sales, yard sales, retail space, etc.) and donate the discarded. |

| Financial Guidance Experts offer a variety of financial guidance that can include: Retirement Planning, expense planning and budgeting, checkbook management, reverse mortgage review, long term care planning, estate planning, etc. |

| Health Care Products include anything from to dietary supplements, diabetic footwear, walking aids, bath safety, grab bars, hospital beds, home care products, etc... |

| Home Health Care agencies allow seniors to receive personal care and maintain independence while remaining in their own home. These home health care services can be a viable alternative to outside of the home treatment including Companion Care, Non-Medical Home Care, Medical Home Healthcare, Respite Care and Skilled Nursing. |

| Home Alert Systems give seniors the security in knowing that help is just a finger tip away. Options vary from personal emergency pendants to complete monitoring systems. |

| Home Remodeling Senior home remodeling allows seniors to age-in-place in and makes their current residence more age-friendly. Ramps, bathroom modifications, handrails, wider doorways, chair lifts, shelf conversions and many other options are available. |

| Hospice programs provide relief to terminally ill patients while attending to the emotional needs of their family at an inpatient facility or at the patient’s home. |

| Independent Living Independent residential communities are for seniors desiring a leisurely, hassle-free lifestyle. Choices include active retirement communities, apartments, condos, or garden homes offering some extra services and features that many retirees would especially enjoy or find helpful. Beyond home maintenance, some services available might include social programs, transportation services, organized outings, shopping trips and sometimes limited medical services. Features might include emergency pull cords within the home, first floor access or elevators that are handicap friendly. Community features may also include meals, housekeeping and laundry. Some independent living communities partner with outside senior service providers such as home health care agencies to increase the senior services available on their campus. |

| Maintenance Free Homes This category includes homes, condominiums, townhomes, active retirement communities and manufactured homes typically sold as deeded real estate for independent living. Often maintenance free homes are referred to as villas, patio homes, carriage homes or townhomes. Retirees and pre-retirees are interested in these options to enjoy their free time with travel and recreation rather than on housing and maintenance. |

| Medical Home Healthcare Agencies require a state license to operate. These agencies can allow a senior to receive facility like care in their own home. Services provided can include: all non-medical services listed above, in-home CNA’s, physical therapy, occupational therapy, administration of medication, and other medical care approved by your doctor. |

| Memory Care (Alzheimer's & Dementia) Includes facilities which offer specialized programs for residents suffering from Alzheimer's disease, Dementia or other forms of memory loss. These programs can also be offered by Assisted Living and Nursing facilities. |

| Mobility Products give seniors the ability to remain independent by staying mobile. These include: scooters, walkers, power chairs, stair lifts, electric wheelchairs, standard wheelchairs, ramps, DME products, etc… |

| Moving & Packing Services can assist seniors and their loved ones in all levels of making a move. Some senior moving services help with just the moving, others help the seniors pack & downsize, move, unpack and get situated in their new home. Some even hang pictures. A few of these agencies will help sell discarded items, whether through their connections in the market, or through auctions and estate sales they hold themselves. |

| Non-Medical Home Care / Personal Care , may require a license depending on your state’s requirements. These agencies could offer a range of services including: companion care services shown above, assistance with bathing, incontinence care, mobility assistance, dressing & grooming, transferring & positioning, oral hygiene, feeding, etc… |

| Nursing Care Nursing homes are for seniors in need of 24-hour nursing care. They provide many of the same care options offered in other senior retirement communities such as room and board, personal care, protection, supervision and other types of therapy. Typically nursing care falls into three levels of care: • Basic Care - Required to maintain a person’s activity of daily living • Skilled Care - Requires the services of a registered nurse for treatment and procedures • Sub-Acute Care - Requires comprehensive in-patient care for someone who has experienced an acute illness or injury. |

| Physical Therapy / Rehabilitation can be provided on either an outpatient basis or through an in-home service. These services can help patients recover from an injury or medical emergency. |

| Physicians & Health Experts include geriatric doctors and geriatric physicians as well as senior health care services including pharmacies, medications, prescription drugs, etc. |

Realtors who want to specialize in the real estate needs of maturing Americans are earning the Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) designation by taking courses designed and conferred by the Real Estate Buyer's Agent Council of the National Association of REALTORS®. This designation acknowledges that they took classes teaching them how to be best attuned to navigate the needs of 55-plus buyers. |

| Rehabilitation Care Facilities that offer rehabilitative care services on a short-term or long-term basis. |

| Respite Care Respite Care communities offer temporary or short term care solutions. This service is intended to give caregivers or adult children a well deserved break from their daily responsibilities of caring for an older adult. The length of a respite stay can vary from 2 days up to more than a full month. |

| Reverse Mortgages allow homeowners 62 years of age or older to convert a portion of the equity in their primary home into cash. This can be used to supplement social security, pay medical expenses, make home improvements, take a vacation, or more. Unlike a traditional loan, repayment is not required until that home is no longer the borrower(s) primary residence. A reverse mortgage can be available regardless of income. The amount available to borrow depends on age, current interest rates, and the appraised value of the home. |
