halloweenHalloween is that one day of the year when you have the license to look sexy, scary or utterly silly. No one’s going to blink, much less judge you (but you’re probably past the age when you’d give a hoot anyway!).

Whether you’re just greeting trick or treaters at your front door or going to a Halloween costume party, here are some fun ideas for you—or at least inspiration—as you pull out the wigs, boas, hats and makeup this year.

Get in character. Alfred Hitchcock is big-screen memory that’s easy to replicate if you have a black suit. Bonus points if you’re also bald and carrying a little extra weight around the middle! Blonde ladies accompanying Alfred can easily transform into Tippi Hedren from “The Birds” by attaching a few birds to their shoulders and looking terrified all night.

Entertainer for the day. Have you always had rock star dreams? Put on a wig, pull on some tight pants and grab a guitar, and you can become anyone from Janis Joplin to Mick Jagger. Another popular choice is the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, with every costume store selling or renting sequined jumpsuits and side-burned wigs this time of year. All you have to do is practice your lip curls and hip swivels!

halloweenGrandma ghoul. With masks, makeup and a little feigned malevolence, turn into a scary vampire, ghoul or wolf man for the night. Just be sure to let those neighbor kids know that you’ll be washing all the evilness off and changing back into their surrogate Grandmas or Grandpas when the clock strikes midnight.

No-muss, no-fuss getups. Don’t want to go to all that trouble? Have fun making your friends or neighbors guess what you are with these simple, yet clever ideas. Pin a paper star and a few dollar bills to your shirt (Starbucks). Paint black circles under your eyes and pin a couple of “P’s” on your shirt (black-eyed peas). Paint a long piece of poster board or foam care to look like a board with wood grain, etc., cut a hole in the middle and place it over your head (man overboard).
