Lifestyle, Health and Wellness…and Location?

When you hear the word “retirement,” you probably envision all those things you enjoy most in life – golf and water aerobics, gourmet dinners and wine tastings, and those art classes you’ve been meaning to take. But chances are good that you don’t think of any of the things that have eaten up your free time for years, like mowing the lawn or fixing leaky faucets. Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall, which opened in Wilmington November 2, 2015, was designed to make your vision of retirement a reality … and then some!

According to Jerry Cooper, director of marketing and development for Liberty Senior Living, Carolina Bay’s parent company, “Our life enrichment coordinator interviews every new resident to find out their interests and determine if we have programs that they’ll enjoy.”

And if the community doesn’t, the coordinator will dream up new activities and events around the resident’s interests The community’s schedule of activities includes book and bridge clubs, movies, birthday socials and happy hours on-site as well as playing golf, visiting art galleries and rooting for the Carolina Bay-sponsored senior softball team off campus in the Wilmington community.

Four dining venues on campus- from a pub to a fine dining restaurant -give residents plenty of menu and ambiance options. The CCRC also works with the University of North Carolina-Wilmington’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute to open up a world of cultural and educational initiatives to residents.

Health and Wellness

While Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall works hard to create the ideal lifestyle for residents, health and wellness is paramount to the staff here. Each month, the wellness director packs the community’s calendar with fitness programs, ranging from biking and walking the campus to yoga and strength building.

Plus, the community uses regular screenings to keep an eye on residents’ health. As their medical needs change, there’s a complete continuum of care, from independent living to assisted living, memory care, and long-term skilled nursing, as well as inpatient and outpatient rehab, available to them without having to move from the home and friends they’ve made in the community. “Carolina Bay offers the security of taking care of the ‘what if’s’,” explains one of the many new residents.

Carolina Bay at Autumn Hall knows that individuals choose retirement communities for many reasons – lifestyle, healthcare, being close to family – but as they say in real estate, you can’t deny the importance of location. Carolina Bay is situated in the sought-after mixed-use community of Autumn Hall, which is beautifully wooded with biking and walking trails and a large lake. It’s also just minutes from Wrightsville Beach and the ocean in one direction and the historic Cape Fear Riverwalk, featuring local attractions, shopping and dining, in the other.
