Many businesses around the country are more than happy to reward veterans for their service to our country. From hotels and restaurants to theme parks, smartphone companies and more, members of the military often receive some very generous discounts. Check out the following list of places that offer savings to members of the military—as well as some additional tips:
Military Discounts 101
As you go about looking for places that offer military discounts, keep in mind that most are not publicized, as The Military Wallet advises. In addition, some are for current members of the military and others are for veterans around holidays such as Veterans’ Day or Memorial Day. If you are at your favorite restaurant and don’t see anything posted, it never hurts to ask about a possible discount. Because most businesses will understandably require some type of proof of your veteran status, keep your current or retired military ID card with you.
The Happiest Place on Earth
Disneyland salutes active and retired members of the United States military through their Military Promotional 3-Day Park Hopper tickets. This will allow you to enjoy time at both Disneyland and California Adventure for each day of your ticket. Through December 16, 2016, you can get admission on any three days for $143.
Smartphones and Tablets
The Advantage Program through T-Mobile can help you save some of your hard-earned money. Members of the military who signed up before March 31, 2014 will get a monthly discount, and those who enrolled on or after April 1, 2014 receive a $25 T-Mobile Advantage Reward Card when buying a new phone or tablet. If you are in the market for a new smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy Note5, you can use the $25 towards the price of the phone, or you can use it toward your bill. In addition to being a user-friendly smartphone, the Galaxy Note5 comes with a handy stylus and great accessibility options like a powerful camera and crystal clear display.
Hotels and Lodging
If you are planning a vacation and looking for a place to stay, several hotel chains including Choice Hotels offer guaranteed discounts to members of the military. This applies to both active duty and retired military personnel and your dependents. An eligible party must occupy the room to get the discounted rate, so while you can’t reserve rooms for your incoming company at the lower price, it is a great way to save on lodging while on vacation.
If you have a hankering for one of those enormous tasty burritos from Chipotle you might be able to save some money on your meal. Each Chipotle has a different policy on offering military discounts, but as noted earlier, it never hurts to inquire. Keep your valid military ID handy as you’ll be required to present it, and check out the site to see if your local Chipotle is participating. In some locations, the discount is 10 percent.
Vehicle Service and Repair
Some automotive repair places offer military discounts—check their website or give them a call before scheduling your oil change or tire rotation. For example, Pep Boys gives active and retired military a 10 percent discount every day of the week. To get the savings, simply show the employee your valid veteran or military ID.
