Senior Health Fair – Resurrection Catholic Church
On October 25th a Senior Health Fair will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church, 15353 Moneta Rd Moneta Va. from 9am-11:30. The Jefferson College of Health Science Nursing students will do Blood pressure and blood sugar checks, provide information on Diabetes, Foot care, Demonstration of Gentle Exercise/chair yoga, Height weight and determine your body mass, by the BMI Index, show how to use health apps on your phone. Students and Dietitian from Carilion Clinic will provide information about Nutrition, Healthy eating/weight loss, and reading food labels. Learn about 211 Va. Vision and hearing screening, and aids for hearing by Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services and Clear Caption and visual impaired. Students and AARP will have information about home safety (including falls). Bedford County Sheriff will have information on Opioid, Narcan, and safety issues. Solid Rock Enterprises will have information about home modifications. Moneta Rescue Squad will have information on First Aid and Emergency preparedness. Representatives from Carilion Clinic will provide information about signs of stroke, and stroke risk. Carilion Wellness and the YMCA will have information about their services offered. Alzheimer’s Association will have information on Dementia. Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living will inform about the Moneta Dining Center’s services. Franklin County Aging will have information on the Essig Center. Carilion Home Health and Hospice will have information on: their Dementia program, Advanced directives and Telehealth Talk. Neighbors Helping Neighbors will provide information on assisting people in staying in their homes longer as they age. STEP will have information to help end poverty. An Occupational therapist from Carilion Clinic will be there to discuss assistive devices for arthritis, and tremors, and possibly Piedmont Behavioral Services will have a table on services offered, including those related to emergent mental health issues.
