Coping With Care Giver Stress

Why am I so exhausted? How do I balance all my responsibilities? Why doesn’t my spouse or child understand what I’m going through? If you have asked yourself any of these questions, then you might be experiences symptoms of caregiver stress.

Caregiver stress is extremely common and while caregiving can be very rewarding, it can also be challenging. As a caregiver for a senior adult, you understand the emotional and physical challenges of caring for someone you love. But it’s just as important to take care of your own health to help eliminate or decrease stress.

  • Rest/sleep: Take time to decompress and rest.
  • Stay healthy: Take vitamins and eat a healthy diet filled with vegetables, fruits, whole grains and minimal saturated fat. Get regular check-ups with your primary physician and exercise regularly.
  • Friends/family: Stay in touch with your friends and family members. Socializing can help you feel connected to others.
  • Support Group: Find a local support group for other individuals in your situation.
