Seniors Got Talent

9/18/2017 | By Terri L. Jones

Whether you’ve been singing since you were a kid or just took up the tuba a few years ago, we believe your talent is meant to be shared … no matter what your age. That’s why Seniors Guide created SENIORS GOT TALENT, an online competition where those age 55 and older can share their gifts with the world, all while competing for up to $1,000!

Since 2011, everyone from pianists to painters to people doing pushups has proven that talent can stand the test of time through this online competition. Pulling out all the stops in their video performances, seniors then encourage their friends and family to watch and vote for them (anyone with a valid email address can vote once a day) and share their videos on social media to rack up even more votes.

Last year, one 55-year-old grandma stunned viewers with a Tina Turner tribute, complete with high kicks, splits and handstands. Some seniors have even involved people from the community to help choreograph their routines or come watch their performances. This year, one dance group even enlisted a video company to shoot their performance using a drone!

It’s easy to participate. Simply record a video of yourself doing what you do best (that’s right…no stage fright necessary!), and submit it here by November 30. Voting will continue through the end of the year, with the first, second and third place winners announced in January.

Winners have used the $250, $500 and $1,000 cash prizes to purchase costumes, upgrade the activities equipment at their retirement communities or pay travel expenses to entertain other seniors.
