With Valentine’s Day marketing targeted to lovers and romance, it’s easy to feel left out if you’re flying solo these days. But you don’t have to be coupled up to enjoy this day of love! Invite a group of your friends (singles and couples) over and make the day special – no matter what your romantic status. This may, also, really help get you through those winter blues!

Smorgasbord of Hearts

You can make almost anything heart-shaped with a cookie cutter: biscuits, cheese, fruit, even a burger – you name it! Then lay out a spread of edible hearts for those you hold dear!

Cupid’s Dance Party

Put on a playlist of your favorite dance tunes, roll up the rugs, and samba, swing, and salsa the night away. If there are only ladies at the party, no problem! Just make sure you decide who’s leading!

Friendly Valentine Competition

After you’re worn out from dancing, have another playlist of easily recognizable love songs – old and new – at the ready for “Name That Love Song.” Play a few bars of each song and see who can guess the tune first. Whomever guesses the most songs might win a box of chocolates, a long-stemmed rose, or a bottle of bubbly.

Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue

Challenge your friends to end this classic Valentine’s Day poem with their own creations. February is National Haiku Month, so you could also try your hand at the shortest form of (non-rhyming) poetry.

Card Exchange

End the evening by exchanging Valentines with your friends, like you did when you were kids! You can either buy a few boxes of the cute premade kind elementary schoolers give one another, or supply your friends with some construction paper, doilies, decorative edge scissors and markers, and let them get crafty!
