A Helping Hand

A Helping Hand provides innovative companion care to individuals of all income levels in Orange, Durham, Chatham and western Wake Counties. Our mission is to promote self-sufficiency, quality of life, and the highest level of independence for older adults.

For 20 years, we have enabled adults to age in place, providing customized, person-centered care to meet both short-term and long-term needs. A Helping Hand companions undergo a thorough screening process, including a comprehensive background check, driving record check, and one-on-one interview process. Our companions are educated, thoughtful individuals who are motivated and committed to providing the best service possible. The majority of our companions hold at least a bachelor’s degree and many have post-graduate education.

Companions include stay-at-home moms, retirees that have led active professional lives, and college students who are preparing for careers in healthcare.

Our escorted transportation services ensure that our clients travel safely to and from their destinations and receive assistance and a steady arm.

Our patient companions are able to take notes for clients at doctor’s appointments and can turn shopping trips into a more leisurely experience. Home assistance services can bridge the gap between having unmet needs in the home and regaining or maintaining control of daily life activities and needs.

Companionship, whether it is for engaging conversation or to start a new hobby, is invaluable for maintaining seniors’ well-being.

Our companionship services reduce social isolation and increase stimulation, which helps prevent cognitive and physical decline. Respite care provides an opportunity for family caregivers to run errands, go to appointments, or have some time for themselves knowing that a trustworthy and responsible companion is staying with their loved one.
