Mobility Concerns for aging adults can become apparent during the holidays.
Another year of holiday cheer, and what better way to celebrate than visiting home or hosting our families?
The kids opening presents, delicious food, and family moments that we will remember for many years to come. In its most simplest, true, form – these are what make the holidays special.
This time of year also gives us an opportunity to spend time with our aging family and loved ones. We may not get to see them as often as we like, but we can enjoy them while we have the time off work and our busy daily schedules.
It’s important for us to note any changes we may see in appearance, hygiene, and mobility. Rapid weight loss or gain, dirty clothes, unkempt hair and nails can all be signs that a senior may need some assistance.
Mobility issues are also a concern, particularly if our loved ones live at home without a caretaker. If our aging family or loved ones are requiring more help than we remember from previous years for walking or getting around, it may be time to inquire whether help is needed after the holidays.
The solution could be as simple as hiring a home health care company to help with daily tasks at home. For more information on Home Care, see our post: “Is Home Care The Solution You Need?”
Another solution for seniors choosing to stay at home is looking into products and services to make the aging process smoother. Along with Companion Care, modifications for the home can be made to help your loved one age in place.
Also referred to as “Universal Design”, examples of assistance are widening door ways, grab bars in the bathroom and shower along with ramps and handrails installed around the house.
One of our favorite, simple, ways of care are medical alert systems. This can come in the form of a pendant worn to alert 911 of an emergency – to full alarm systems installed in the home that look out for care.
Finally, if aging at home is no longer an option, Retirement Community care may be the most helpful for our senior loved ones. To browse Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing and Continuing Care Communities close to you, get started here: http://188.8.131.52/Retirement-Communities
