GARNER SENIOR CENTER HIP HOP SENIOR DANCE TEAM INVITED TO PERFORM IN TAIWAN AT THE TAIPEI AREANA
The G Squad was formed 8 years ago to prove that “Age is Only a Number”. This group of 7 special ladies (Olivia, DeAnna, Elizabeth, Maureen, Alberta, Patricia, Elaine) volunteer to represent the Garner Senior Center by performing Hip Hop routines to top 40 hits at Town sponsored events, Senior Games, nursing homes, neighboring senior centers and openings for charitable functions such as the Annual Arthritis Walk, Relay for Life and the First Responder’s Celebration.
They have won numerous medals, including the Gold medal at NC State Silver Arts Follies.
Giving back to the community is only one of the benefits of dancing with the G Squad. It’s great exercise and learning and remembering the choreography aid in keeping the mind active and sharp. They have all become great friends and are planning their 2nd cruise vacation this fall.
In October the G Squad will be traveling to Taiwan to perform at the Taipei Arena. A member of the Hondao Senior Welfare Foundation in Taiwan saw the G Squad on You Tube and invited the dancers to be the first representatives of the USA at their annual event promoting public awareness that the elderly are active, essential members of society.
